Why You Need a VPN and the Benefits of Using One

VPN stands for Virtual Private Networks (VPN). It allows you to connect to the internet via a server run by the VPN provider. So any data that traveling between your computer, phone or tablet, and this “VPN server” is securely encrypted. Basically it secures your data and provides privacy by hiding your internet activity from your ISP (and whoever else wants to look at your usage). With the changing times, ISPs generally show very little interest in protecting privacy. They may sell or not provide any safeguards for your privacy altogether. So the need for a VPN is constantly increasing.

What About Free VPNs?

There are free VPN services but they're generally unsecured and will slow your internet speed. VPN services are not cheap and in order to run a free VPN service VPN providers may sell your data, slow your speeds, or user questionable tactics (ex. IP address sharing). And in the case of IP address sharing it could put you at a greater risk than not using a VPN at all. How? If a user for example uses a free VPN service for nefarious reasons and it is paired and/or shared with you, then you could be at risk for the consequences. So for the few dollars it costs to get a reliable VPN service, you should definitely do it.
